A Local’s Guide to the Vilnius Craft Beer Scene – Top Spots Only (my version)

I’m almost hesitant to hit “publish” on this. I hate giving out a great place because it’s already hard enough to find a seat, and these spots are busy as it is. But if you’re looking for the real deal in Vilnius, you have to know where to go. Forget the tourist traps; here is my version of the top beer destinations in the city.

1. Šnekutis

Rating: ⭐ 4.6 | Status: 🟢 Usually Busy
Location: Šv. Mikalojaus g. 15

While there are several locations, the one on St. Mikalojaus St. remains the undisputed king. It’s unpretentious, loud, and authentically Lithuanian.

  • The Warning: It is perpetually busy. I’m risking my own future Friday nights by telling you this, but it’s the best place to find the full spectrum of local brewing.
  • The Pro Move: Don’t just look at the taps. Their bottled selection is a goldmine. This is where you find the experimental releases from Dundulis that define the modern scene.

2. Špunka (Užupis)

Rating: ⭐ 4.7 | Status: 🟢 Tiny & Atmospheric
Location: Užupio g. 9

Located right next to the iconic Užupis Angel, this Špunka is tiny, but that’s exactly what creates the atmosphere.

  • The Vibe: Being in the heart of the arts district, it attracts a crowd of painters, poets, and local regulars—the kind of “regular alcoholics” that give the place its true, unvarnished character. It’s a hole-in-the-wall where a quick pint turns into a three-hour conversation.

3. Alaus kolonėlė

Rating: ⭐ 4.8 | Status: 🟢 Local Favorite
Location: Smolensko g. 1

Nothing fancy here—it’s essentially a local sports bar, but don’t let that fool you. They have a really good selection and it’s one of the best places to grab a Basker Origin IPA on tap. Good beer, no attitude.

4. Savičiaus Špunka

Rating: ⭐ 4.4 | Status: 🟡 Tourist-Heavy
Location: Savičiaus g. 9

This used to be my favorite, but it’s a good example of how popularity changes a place. As the street became a tourist magnet, the owners pivoted. It’s lost some of its raw edge and the prices stay high, though it’s still a solid spot for people-watching.

The Dundulis & Basker Shortlist

Look for these in the fridges or on tap. These are my personal essentials:

  • Pelėda – A sweet, smooth Milk Stout. Bitter chocolate and roasted coffee.
  • 31 – The “sauna beer.” Brewed with birch buds; tastes like a fresh birch vanta.
  • Viržinis – A flowery heather ale based on ancient recipes.
  • Humulupu – A classic Session IPA (Latin for hops).
  • Dubults – A Double IPA. Tough, bitter, and a total “wack on the head.”
  • Simkala – One of the best APAs around. Very aromatic.
  • Gutstoutas – A traditional Oatmeal Stout. Silky and chocolatey.
  • Basker Origin IPA – A hazy, tropical NEIPA. One of the best balanced local pours.
